Friendsgiving Invitation: Snowglobe Terrarium

My favorite part of the holiday season is hibernating with loved ones surrounded by cozy decor... snowcovered garland, twinkling lights, and faux fur throws. And for this year's Friendsgiving holiday dinner invitation, I wanted to capture that in this terrarium inspired shadowbox style invitation.

My twist on a snowglobe, this DIY terrarium invite was the perfect window into a wintery scene—snow and berry branch details, separated by an interior diagonal. And gold foil typography details feature a clean and simple design, not to distract from the handcrafted features. I built the terrarium container with sheets of acrylic and gold foil tape, and I DIY gold foiled the typography on a transparency sheet for the front panel. This was something that's been in my head for months, and I was so excited to see it come to life for the holiday season... and it was perfect timing in honor of the beautiful blanket of snow that's already covering Chicago. There's nothing better than snow (real and faux) to usher in the holidays!

Goodbye Pumpkins. Hello Garland.

I hope you all had an amazing holiday weekend!! I'm still recovering from a very busy Thanksgiving with my family and friends in my hometown of St. Louis. I can't believe Thanksgiving has already come and gone. I feel like we were just at the pumpkin patch picking out the perfect pumpkins to decorate with around our home, and it's already time to pack them up to make way for garland!

As soon as we got home from St. Louis, we got out the box of ornaments, my childhood stockings, and my favorite giant nutcracker... and it sure is starting to look a lot like Christmas in the Vacasa! So I'm saying goodbye to my favorite DIY pumpkin—with its glittering geode center—until next year!

Happy October! Don't mind me... I'll just be over here celebrating the start of my absolute favorite 31 days of the entire year!! Dreaming up so many autumn projects and tablescapes and drooling over pumpkin recipes. Now if October just lasted a few weeks longer maybe I'd have time to tackle them all!

Hello Fall!

Hello first day of Fall! It's my absolute favorite season and the main reason I love living in Chicago. I swear it's why we put up with the insane winters here... you can't beat our autumns. It's for sure my favorite time of year to get our house all cozy and prepped for winter hibernation, and more importantly, festive for holiday parties... I'm looking at you, Friendsgiving 2017!! I can't wait to share some fall inspired projects over the next few weeks! Bring on all things fall!

Year One in The Vacasa!

Okay, seriously?! Its been 6 months since my last post?! I feel like I just blinked and spring was already over and summer was suddenly hanging on for dear life! Celebrating Labor Day's unofficial end of summer yesterday brought us to today's very exciting celebration—the 1 year anniversary of moving into our first home, which we loving call The Vacasa (The Vaca Casa)!

Yesterday was the perfect day for enjoying my favorite project we've finished at The Vacasa so far. After summer weekends of re-staining the deck, building a slatted fence around the AC units,  and painting new and existing walls, we finally finished building out the last slatted wall with huge bar ledge feature. Inspired by our favorite hotel in Mexico, Coqui Coqui, we created our own little piece of Tulum heaven on our rooftop deck by integrating sandy creams, dark rich woods, driftwood grays, and most importantly, a gorgeous Mayan hammock.  Although, I will say... our pup, Bananas, could have definitely been our color palette inspiration as well. We didn't intentionally create a deck that she matched perfectly, but she does look right at home in the hammock that she loves so much!

We couldn't be happier and more at home here, and we've been slowly tackling projects around here to make it even more perfect! But it's slow going because we've both been so busy with work and travel the past few months, which is also the reason I haven't posted in so long! SO many exciting things have been happening over at Sugar & Gold over the past 6 months! I've been buuuuussssssyyy!! Busier than I can ever remember (even more so than the year planning my own wedding) with so many exciting collaborations, projects, and trips. I haven't even had a chance to look through all the photos yet, but later this week I'll be sharing some the biggest highlights from the past 6 months!
